We are not divided by how to pursue liberty but whether to pursue it
There is no compromise: one side must win, and the other must lose
The Democrat Party is now communist in all but name
The Left has no intention of ever again subjecting itself to a fair vote
We are headed toward a totalitarian, one-party state
The decision we face in this election is not whether America should veer to the left or to the right, but whether it will stand up or be brought down. For the first time, shouts of “Death to America!” are being heard not in Tehran but in Oakland; and in many other cities across the nation, Marxist groups continue burning American flags and American livelihoods. In the park, they destroy the monuments to our founding, and in the classroom slander the principles that inspired it.
That we are a deeply divided nation is no secret, but the nature of that division has shifted from political to spiritual. Once split over how best to pursue liberty, we are now split over whether to pursue it at all.
Sadly, this deep rift is irreconcilable because we no longer share any common ground. Without at least some point of mutual agreement, there can be no resolution but for one side to vanquish the other. And though the cause of liberty ought to hold a significant advantage in any free nation, it is questionable whether that advantage is currently anything more than nominal.
There is good reason to doubt that it is, seeing as one half of our two-party system is now communist in all but name. After a century of toying with this infernal philosophy, the Democrat Party has finally been overtaken and wholly consumed by it, ultimately shifting from a party promising to do things for people to one promising to do things to them. And the accompanying malevolence of its guerrilla forces in our streets proves that these threats are not idle.
Such violence is usually justified on the grounds that it advances minority interests, although how minorities benefit from having their grocery stores incinerated is a terrific mystery. But then not much in the way of reason is to be expected from those who fight alleged injustice with actual injustice, alleged fascism with actual fascism, and alleged racism with actual racism. On reflection, it becomes clear that “minority interests” is merely a convenient excuse to commit property crime and foment social revolution.
This tactic is not new — the Democrat Party has a long history of exploiting minorities. From its days as the party of slavery, eugenics, lynching, race-based abortion, Jim Crow, and the KKK up until now, it has preyed upon the weak and marginalized. But its means of exploitation has changed from the physical to the political.
Instead of targeting these communities for persecution, the Democrat Party now appropriates their identities, and excommunicates as “inauthentic” or “traitorous” any members who deviate from the party line. While fundraising off the plight of the downtrodden, Democrats blindly ignore the fact that it is they doing the treading down.
This, however, should not surprise us. The Left’s atheistic religion of communism regards a person as valuable only insofar as he is useful. And why not? Without God, there is no basis for believing that man has any inherent value; nor is there a basis for permitting him to live after his usefulness has been exhausted. If he can no longer serve the Party, why should he go on eating its food, drinking its water, and consuming its medical resources?
But lest we think that such inhumanity could never come to America, let us consider for a moment the possibility that it already has. For decades, the Democrats have openly championed the deaths of those who do not serve the State: through euthanasia, they killed the elderly and infirm; and through abortion, the unborn. This is precisely how the Marxist Left has always dealt with defenseless people who got in its way, and we would be naive to expect anything different this time around.
Thankfully, many of us are not defenseless due to the Constitution’s second-amendment protections, but how will we fare when the Democrats make good on their promises to confiscate those defenses? And once disarmed, how will we then prevent them from violating all of our other rights; chiefly, the right to life?
These are rhetorical questions, of course, because there is no mystery surrounding their intentions. From music videos to photo shoots, fantasy fiction to Shakespeare in the Park — and absolutely everywhere on social media — the Left openly broadcasts its longing for our literal demise. It is not enough for us to lose, we must also die. Political opposition, it seems, is not simply matter of disagreement, it is a capital crime.
And we should have seen it coming. After all, did we really expect that those who would murder their own children for the sake of convenience would balk at killing those of us who deliberately impede their agenda? Their ideological forbears had no such reservations, and once their power is uncontested, neither will they.
Not so long ago, such a communist tyranny could be prevented by voting its proponents out of office, but today’s Left has no intention of ever again subjecting itself to a vote. Or at least not one that it can lose. We know this because the Democrats have been quite transparent about their plans to tailor government to their advantage:
Executive: Eliminating the Electoral College
The president is not elected by a direct vote but by the Electoral College, a group whose membership is composed of electors from each state. This structure ensures that anyone seeking the presidency will be forced to consider the interests not just of major population centers, but of each state in the Union.
Should the Democrats succeed in eliminating the Electoral College, however, the president would be elected primarily by a handful of large cities. This would shift presidential politics (and thus national politics) away from the diverse needs and interests of a vast nation to the specific, narrow interests of these few large cities, all of which skew heavily Democratic and favor leftist policies.Legislative: Granting Statehood
In an obvious ploy to increase their congressional influence, Democrats plan to grant statehood to two reliably leftist territories: Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. While providing a slight bump in their House membership, it is the addition of four Senate seats that makes this tactic so enticing.
But as appealing as that may be, it is not enough to slake the Democrats’ thirst for power. In addition to admitting new states, they have also floated the idea of splitting old ones. Though the specific states (all Democrat strongholds) and number of divisions vary among proposals, this is clearly nothing more than gerrymandering on a national scale. Breaking California into five states, for example, would yield an additional — and very safe — eight Senate seats, for a net total of twelve.
There is no national interest incentivizing either course of action (let alone both), but the Democrats are perfectly willing to sideline the nation’s interest in favor of their own. In a government body where the majority is often determined by just a few seats, the windfall of an additional twelve would hand the Democrats lasting and overwhelming legislative control.Judicial: Packing the Supreme Court
Nearly a century ago, FDR, frustrated by the Court’s refusal to rubber-stamp New Deal legislation, sought to increase the number of justices in an effort to yield outcomes more favorable to his agenda.
Now the Democrats are running the same play again. Success would allow them to use the Court as a super-legislature, striking down any laws contrary to their liking, and illegally creating new ones by a judicial sleight-of-hand commonly referred to as “legislating from the bench.”
This would, in effect, render Congress a largely vestigial organ of our republic with little in the way of either purpose or power. Our ability to craft our own laws through elected legislators would be greatly curtailed, and any attempt to return to representative government would inevitably find itself appealing to the very court it seeks to disempower.
These machinations are clearly designed to give the Left an insurmountable advantage in each of the federal government’s three branches. Combined, they effectively form a one-party State; and that one party does not value America’s central principle of liberty.
We can see this even now by examining the practices of any industry over which the Left has control — be it social media, legacy media, academia, entertainment, or what have you. For all their endless carping about tolerance, inclusion, and diversity, Democrats mysteriously lose their appetite for all three the very moment they taste power. Once in command, diversity of thought is expunged as opposing viewpoints are neither included nor tolerated; indeed, they are actively suppressed.
It is this same tyranny with which the Left means to rule us at a national level, and it is working tirelessly to dismantle the constitutional safeguards preventing it from doing so. Leftists (particularly those disguised as journalists) often misdirect from these efforts by focusing our attention on the shiny object of personality. But regardless of whether they are inculcating our adoration of Barack Obama or our abhorrence of Donald Trump, we must remember that the decision before us as citizens is far less about who we vote into office than it is about ensuring that we do not vote ourselves out.
